About the role

Would you like to be part of the exciting reemergence of Leeds University Union?

We never stopped supporting students throughout the pandemic but had to change what we offered and what we could open. Now, as we plan beyond the pandemic, this exciting role managing our newly-formed communications team aims to improve how we communicate with key audiences including staff, students, the University of Leeds and the general public through the media and external partners.

In the role you will support the development and execution of external and internal communications activity; ensuring that all external and internal communications to key stakeholders are effectively communicated, with consistent messaging, in support of our purpose and driving engagement with our services and spaces on the University of Leeds campus.

You will play an active role in supporting the Director of Digital & Communications to design and develop the communications team. This includes designing and executing a communications programme internally and externally with a focus on developing and managing content for the media, to colleagues and through our social media channels. You will be supported by the Communications Coordinator, Content and Social Producer and student communication assistants and work closely with our marketing, events and commercial operations teams.

The role is based on the University of Leeds campus (Leeds City Centre) but will be largely remote with occasional days on campus until September 2021.

Note: we are currently midway through a project including consulting with staff to establish what the working arrangements (office/remote/flexible etc.) will be beyond September.

About you

With experience in a communications role working across various channels, including media, digital, social, stakeholder and internal, you will have an interest in working for a charity that aims to ensure every student at the University of Leeds loves their time at university.

You’ll need:

  • Experience in a PR or communications role, working with a diverse range of audiences
  • Experience of crisis communications
  • Experience raising an organisation’s profile through stakeholder and media engagement
  • An understanding of brand and the ability to create strategy-led communication programmes
  • An understanding of digital marketing channels
  • Significant copywriting experience including PR, editorial and design underpinned by theoretical or practical knowledge or experience

But above all, passion to communicate our reemergence - as restrictions reduce on hosting live music and our bars, outlets and clubs and societies are allowed to do more, we want to make sure we get our message out louder and bolder than ever before!
